As I work my way through another rewatch of “The West Wing,” I was reminded of how big a fan Lin-Manuel Miranda is of the show.
In an interview with Vulture in 2016, Miranda talked about how “The West Wing” influenced “Hamilton.”
West Wing was huge. Like Hamilton, it pulls back the curtain on how decision-making happens at the highest level, or at least how you hope it would be. The amount of information Aaron Sorkin packs into a scene gave me this courage to trust the audience to keep up.
On Reddit, fans of the “The West Wing” have spotted a number of different nods to the show in “Hamilton.”
When he gave his final curtain call after his run in “Hamilton” in 2016, the orchestra surprised Miranda by playing the theme song from “The West Wing.”
Miranda also teamed up with “The West Wing Weekly” podcast folks to write an entire song called “What’s Next?” inspired by the show:
